Paul E. English, MD, FAAD

Doctor English received his undergraduate training at Utah State University and graduated from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He attended the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City and completed a Pediatric Internship at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals. His residency training was obtained at the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas, Texas and served as the Chief Resident during his last training year.

Doctor English is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has been practicing dermatology in Arizona since 1990.

Doctor English is a past board member of the Maricopa County Medical Society and past President of the Phoenix Dermatologic Society.

He has been recognized, by his peers, in Phoenix Magazine on multiple occasions as a Top Doctor. He has been voted Best Of in several Valley publications. Doctor English has been interviewed by local and national media outlets for advice and recommendations on sun protection and ways to improve skin health. He has contributed to articles published in Prevention and Good Housekeeping magazines.

In addition, he has provided screening services for the Major League Baseball Umpires Association and been involved in the screening and care of players and staff of the Arizona Diamondbacks for over 18 years. He provides care for the ASU athletes and students at Arizona State University.

Doctor English and his wife serve on the Board of Directors for Care for Life, a non-profit organization providing training and support to help alleviate suffering of the people in Mozambique, Africa. He and his wife have taken many trips to work directly with these people they have grown to love.

Doctor English enjoys running, hiking, backpacking, fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoys ranching and cultivating a variety of fruit trees. He enjoys traveling with his wife and spending time with his 5 children, their spouses and their 14 grandchildren.

To top this off, he enjoys the uplifting interactions with his patients and truly feels rewarded for providing services to improve their skin conditions and health.

Julio Hernandez, MD

Dr. Hernandez was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He studied medicine at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, followed by one year of internship in Internal Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA. He completed a three year Dermatology residency at the University of Puerto Rico in 1984 and became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology that same year. He taught Dermatological surgery as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Puerto Rico until 1987. He moved to New Orleans, LA where he obtained additional training in Dermatological Surgery, which included fellowship training in Dermatological Cosmetic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatological Laser Surgery. He practiced in New Orleans for nine years and has taught Dermatologic and Reconstructive Surgery after skin cancer removal to residents and fellows.

Dr. Hernandez has been practicing Dermatology for over 30 years, performed over 10,000 Mohs cases, and has been a faculty member in multiple national and international Dermatology meetings. He has been an author of several chapters in medical textbooks. In addition to Mohs surgery, he has expertise in the areas of facial reconstruction after skin cancer removal, using cosmetic surgery techniques.

In 1984 Dr. Hernandez was privileged to meet Dr. Frederic Mohs and spent two days at his Mohs Clinic in Madison, Wisconsin.

Besides being a family man and physician, Dr. Hernandez is an avid photographer, runs 5K's and half-marathons, and is a private pilot.

Hugo Robert Paulson, MD

Mark Rosenberg, DO, FAOCD

Mark Rosenberg, D.O. completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in pre-medical studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He then attended graduate school at the University of Illinois where he earned his Master of Science degree in Human Anatomy. He completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University followed by an internship in general medicine/surgery and a residency in dermatology.

His interest in dermatology developed while he was a graduate student at the University of Illinois. During that time, he was involved in research on the emerging subject of tissue regeneration. Under the direction of Anthony J. Schmidt, Ph.D., a pioneer in the field of regeneration, Dr. Rosenberg helped to develop a successful in vitro environment which sustained and promoted the regeneration of multiple organ systems.

From medical school on, the field of dermatology has held Dr. Rosenberg's most intense interest. He appreciates the way it combines the clinical, surgical and cosmetic aspects of medicine. Dr. Rosenberg specializes in all aspects of medical dermatology including skin cancer detection, surgery and treatment and is vastly experienced in the most current cosmetic procedures.

James J. Yousif, D.O., Mohs Surgeon

Dr. James Yousif is a board-certified dermatologist who completed a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery. This specialized tissue-sparing technique involves removing skin cancers one layer at a time and examining them under a microscope to ensure complete removal, and provide the highest possible cure rate. Dr. Yousif approaches each surgery uniquely, the way an artist works on a clear canvas. After completion of the Mohs procedure, he takes meticulous care to minimize post-surgical scars and uses advanced surgical techniques to offer the best cosmetic result.

Dr. Yousif is a faith-filled leader, confident with complex medical and surgical dermatology cases. He serves patients of all ages and genders and offers a genuinely attentive bedside manner. He strives to provide patient-focused care and believes his passion for Mohs surgery, surgical dermatology, and general dermatology drives him to do just that.

When he is not providing his patients with the most up to date and evidence-based dermatology care, Dr. Yousif enjoys participating in some of his favorite activities, which include working out, hiking, reading, and traveling.

Kenan Arkawi, PA-C

Kenan began his career in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. As a Hospital Corpsman he was introduced to a wide variety of medical specialties and gained a desire to learn more about the vast medical field. After receiving training as a PACU (post-anesthesia care unit) corpsman, Kenan was stationed at the Navy Medical Hospital in San Diego, CA where he provided medical support to all branches of the military. He was then stationed with the Marine Air Wing to provide clinical support for the unit. He treated many medical conditions and realized that he wanted to pursue a career in skin treatment.

After completing his obligation with the Navy, Kenan attended Arizona State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. He then attended Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ where he completed a Master's degree in Medical Science. While at Midwestern University, Kenan was awarded the Outstanding Physician Assistant in Education in 2008. 

Kenan is a nationally certified physician assistant and is a member of many societies including the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, the Phoenix Dermatologic Society and he is a board member of the Arizona Dermatology Physician Assistants Society. He has also completed specialized training in laser treatment through Cutera. 

Kenan speaks fluent Spanish and Arabic.

Brian Brinegar, MPAS, PA-C

Brian Brinegar has been with English Dermatology since 2010. He is certified by the NCCPA and is licensed to practice in the state of Arizona. Brian completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.In 2003 he received his master's degreein Physician Assistant Studies from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

Brian is trained and skilled in all areas of Dermatology. He specializes in dermatologic skin conditions, including skin cancer. Brian also has expertise in cosmetic dermatology including laser procedures, injectable fillers, and sclerotherapy for vein reduction.

Before joining English Dermatology, Brian worked as a dermatology physician assistant in California. He has also worked in numerous areas of the medical field. He has served as a physician assistant in a Plastic Surgery office and a Gastroenterology practice. He has worked as a national trainer and educator for a medical technology company providing training to doctors on the use of lasers and IPL machines.

In his spare time, Brian enjoys snowboarding and spending time with his family.He and his wife were raised in Southern California and are proud parents of four children.

Kelly Donald Chavez PA-C

In the course of receiving his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Nebraska Medical School, Kelly Chavez realized his unique treatment style, “I like to get to know the patient by name and build a personal relationship.” It’s common for Kelly to laugh with his patients and the trust they build offers a comfortable platform to present any new concerns. 

Four years of service in the United States Navy, where he provided care for a crew of 400 on a daily basis-gave him exposure to a diverse and complex patient base. Kelly believes the art of dermatology lies in good communication and education of patients and their families. 

Kelly worked alongside well respected surgeons in New Mexico and Texas where he performed and interpreted biopsies and excisions. His experience gave him confidence to treat difficult cases with diligent attention to care.

Today, Kelly thrives in patient satisfaction and is dedicated to studying the latest innovative and technological treatments within the industry. He enjoys spending time outdoors camping, hiking, biking or skiing because “nature has a way of reminding us who and what we are supposed to be, family also has a way of doing that.”

Mary Connolly, RN, CNP

Mary has been with English Dermatology since 2001. Prior to EDC, Mary had twenty years of hospital experience as an R.N. Her clinical background includes, Medical Surgical, ICU, OR, Psych ER, NICU, L&D, Hospital Management and Dermatology. Beginning her career in California, Mary worked as a staff nurse, charge nurse and assistant clinical director, always directly involved in patient care. Even as a Clinical Director of a Level III OB Department, with 24 hour accountability, she always remained hands on in patient care and as a patient advocate. She also planned, developed and opened a Level III NICU. After relocating to Arizona, Mary worked as Administrative Supervisor of Nursing in a 350 bed hospital. Her duties included problem solving for administration, medical and ancillary departments. She was also responsible for assisting and managing code blues. Prior to N.P. school Mary worked as a Maternal Child Health Supervisor. She coordinated a government maternal child health program for the state of Arizona. She was responsible for managing multiple offices and providing education and community outreach throughout the state.

Mary received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Chapman University and her N.P. from the University of Phoenix.She worked several years as an N.P. at Pinal County Health Department and in private practice prior to Dermatology.Her Dermatology career began at Clear Start Dermatology Centers in 1998 where she worked as an autonomous Nurse Practitioner.Mary is a member of the Dermatology Nurses Association, and has been actively involved in community education. She brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to our practice.Her leisure time is spent with her husband and family in the mountains. She enjoys, traveling, reading, sports, hiking, biking and outdoor activities.

Cynthia (Cindi) Franco, MS, PA-C

Cindi is a native Floridian who graduated valedictorian of her high school class. Cindi completed her B.S. degree at Florida State University where she received the prestigious Florida Academic and Presidential Scholarship Award. After earning her undergraduate degree, Cindi attended the United States Sports Academy where she attained her Master's Degree in Sports Medicine with a 4.0 GPA. After a seven year engagement working in sports medicine, United States Air Force Civil Service, and as an Adjunct Professor, Cindi entered the celebrated MCP Hahnemann Physician Assistant Program at Drexel University. MCP Hahnemann is the second oldest PA training program in the nation and holds the distinction of being within the top 25 Physician Assistant Training Programs in the country. Cindi has been working in the field of Dermatology since 2003. Through the years, Cindi has had the fortune to train closely with several distinguished physicians. As a result, she has amassed a vast repertoire of medical, cosmetic, and surgical skills. With a genuine, compassionate, and energetic treatment style, Cindi communicates her remarkable abilities and respect for her patients. Cindi is board certified by the NCCPA and licensed to practice in the state of Arizona.

In her spare time Cindi enjoys scuba diving, tennis, travel, and spending time with her husband.

Mindy Hendrickson, MMS, PA-C

Mindy has been with English Dermatology since October of 2007. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Arizona State University. She then entered the Physician Assistant program at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ where she completed a master's portfolio and practicum in dermatology. She graduated from Midwestern University in 2007 with a Master of Medical Science degree.

Mindy is originally from Northern Minnesota. She enjoys running and other outdoor activities. Her work related interests include minor cosmetic procedures, skin cancer prevention, and pediatric dermatology.

Sheis a member of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Mindy isboard certified by the NCCPA and licensed to practice in the state of Arizona.

Kathlynn Hurt, RPh, PA-C

Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She then furthered her education by receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. 

“I was inspired to pursue Dermatology as skin is the largest organ of the body. I kept thinking that if I didn’t take care of my earth suit, where would I live?” 

Kathy’s goal when treating patients is that all of her interactions result in shared learning between she and her patients. She manages patient expectations by being realistic with each patient concerning potential outcomes. She strives to establish lasting relationships with her patients. With the right tools, Kathy works to help patients be comfortable in their own skin. 

When Kathy is not treating patients, she enjoys reading, biking, hiking and staying fit.

Rebecca Morrow, PA-C

Rebecca Morrow, PA-C, earned her Bachelor of Neuroscience degree at Brigham Young University Provo, Utah. She then pursued her Master’s Degree in Health Science and Physician Assistant studies at The George Washington University, DC. Post-graduation from The George Washington University, she completed an informal fellowship in Emergency Medicine at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma center in Falls Church, VA. During her fellowship she worked with, and learned from a variety of specialists including Dermatologists, Podiatrists, Plastic Surgeons, and other specialists. 

Rebecca’s inspiration to specialize in Dermatology is her love for helping others look and feel their best. She enjoys taking the time to listen and understand her patients’ concerns and expectations. She manages patients’ expectations by providing her professional knowledge about each concern a patient presents. She then discusses treatment options, possible outcomes, and helps patients establish realistic expectations. Rebecca believes this empowers her patients to be a part of their own healthcare.

Megan Shoen, MPAS, PA-C

Megan, an Arizona native, joined English Dermatology in 2013. She graduated with her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at A.T. Still University. Prior to receiving her masters, Megan had the prestigious honor to sign with The University of Texas at Austin where she was a scholarship athlete and a member of the Texas Longhorn’s Division I Womens Rowing program. While attending UT Austin, Megan balanced her academics with her athletics and graduated, earning her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology: Health Promotion and Fitness.

Megan loves all aspects of Dermatology (medical, surgical and cosmetic) and has a true passion for skin care with a special interest in cosmetics and skin cancer. She is trained in cosmetic Botox and Fillers. She is an active member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA) and is in the process of completing the SDPA Diplomate Fellowship. Megan is board certified by the NCCPA and licensed to practice in the state of Arizona.

During Megan’s spare time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband and daughter and trying new restaurants in the valley. She loves watching football, especially the Arizona Cardinals and Texas Longhorns.

Kristen N. Peterson, RN, MSN, FNP-C

Kristen is a family nurse practitioner who grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and relocated to Arizona . Living in Arizona in the late 1980's. Joining English Dermatology in 2017, Kristen brings with her extensive experience in skin care, having worked in the dermatology field for seven years. Her passion lies in the management and treatment of simple and complex dermatological conditions, skin surgeries, aesthetics, and anti-aging modalities. Kristen's cosmetic specialties include wrinkle reduction with Botox, plumping the lips with dermal fillers, and reversing the signs of aging with injectable treatments. Kristen's keys to success include patient advocacy, empathy, education, enthusiasm, and positivity. Since joining our team, she has proved to be an invaluable member of our dermatological staff.

Kristen graduated with honors from Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Continuing her education, she earned her Master's Degree in Nursing / Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Phoenix. Upon certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Association, Kristen pursued her dream of working in the field of dermatology. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) at Northern Arizona University.

Annie Sullivan, MMS, PA-C

Annie has been with English Dermatology since 2014. She has been practicing as a physician assistant for the past 6 years in dermatology and 6 years in family practice prior to that. She attended college on a full Division I athletic scholarship and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. In 2002 she received her Master of Medical Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Midwestern University-Glendale.

Annie enjoys practicing medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology, with a special interest in detecting skin cancers. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Board Certified by the NCCPA, licensed by the state of Arizona and a Diplomate of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

In her free time Annie enjoys running. She has also participated in volunteer clinics in Guatemala, homeless clinics in downtown Phoenix and has been a foster parent for the Arizona Humane Society.

Melanie Childs, LE, CLT

Melanie is a licensed medical aesthetician and certified laser technician. She received her training at Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics. Prior to becoming an aesthetician, Melanie spent 10 years in the Education field.

Along with her passion for helping people she has always been interested in the Medical field and the beauty industry. The transition to aesthetics was a natural step for her but more importantly, her patients appreciate the benefit from the unique blending of skills she derives from this background. Melanie has been licensed in aesthetics and laser since 2015 and began working for English Dermatology that same year.

Her areas of expertise include; acne facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, derma planning, micro needling and photodynamic therapy. As a laser technician she has experience with various lasers, involving photo rejuvenation, resurfacing, skin tightening and laser hair reduction. Through continued education Melanie stays current on the latest skin care research and laser technology.

Trina Wright, LE, CLT

Trina is a licensed medical aesthetician and a certified laser technician. She joined English Dermatology in 2007. Prior to her time at English Dermatology, she worked at DermaCare Med Spa in Arizona and Randall Dermatology in Indiana.

Trina received her aesthetician license from Kayes Beauty College in Indiana and became a certified laser technician for the state of Arizona through the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency during her time with DermaCare. Trina stays current on the latest skin care research and laser technology through her continual aesthetic educational classes.

Trina is experienced with the use of various lasers involving hair removal, photo facials, vascular issues, and skin tightening. She is skilled in the use of the XTRAC Laser for patients with Psoriasis and Vitiligo. Trina also provides the services of photodynamic therapy, peels, and microdermabrasion's.

During Trina's spare time, she enjoys making jewelry (necklaces and belts), antique shopping, and hiking.
